MTG COMMENTARY:Ashley Tisdale and Dallas Police's Common Bond?

Whether it's Ashley Tisdale or your local authorities, America needs to quit bitching about ink.

Earlier this morning on my MyTattooGirls.com blog, I wrote about how we as a society need to stop looking down on celebrity "role models" because of their tattoos.

Apparently, Tisdale—of Disney Channel fame—got a tattoo on her back and the public, everyone from TMZ to your next door neighbor went into a massive uproar, saying that that's no way for a fan favorite of kids to present themselves.

Now, reading through my Twitter page earlier, I came across an interesting news item, stating that the Dallas Police Department has a new policy, in an attempt to "display a more professional image," prohibiting officers from showing off their ink.

Same thing happened a while back with the L.A. Fire Department.

Now, I can possibly understand the logic in keeping celebrities ink-free, as it affects their public image, but I don't give a shit one or another if a police officer, firefighter, EMT or ER surgeon has virgin skin or a full bodysuit. 

As long as they get the job in keeping us safe, who the fuck cares?

TATTOO INDUSTRY NEWS:Body Art Expo Hits Southern California

This past weekend, July 17-19, the Body Art Expo, held several times a year in Pomona, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver and Chicago, took place at the Pomona Fairgrounds right here in scorching hot Southern California.

The staff here at MyTattooGirls was unfortunately unable to attend, but our very own Tabitha James has gone to the show at the Los Angeles Convention Center and can attest to the insane amounts of mass hysteria going on at these shows. 

Every 20-30 feet, someone is getting something pierced. Chicks are flashing off their pierced nipples and tattooed pussies, all while being careful to avoid security. There's tattoos and piercings going onto and into every body part imaginable, everything from head tattoos to corset piercings. You'll find most tattoo artists using the traditional guns, while others are using the Japanese "Tebori" hand-poke method. Clothing companies are selling their latest fashions, while others are selling everything from glass pipes to sex toys. All-in-all, there's a little something for every one who's got even the smallest interest in body art.

All of the shows are sponsored by the World Famous Baba of Vintage Tattoo Art Parlor. (As a footnote regarding Baba, he's appeared on MyTattooGirls before, tattooing Shyla Stylez.)

MTG COMMENTARY:Tattoos Mainstream or Not Quite?

Take a good look at Kitten's face. Those tattoos are permanent. They aren't Henna. No Cracker Jack temporary tattoos that you can rub off with alcohol. This is the real fucking deal.

Googling the web for tattoo news right now, found three articles that made me think about Kitten's face and how close—or far—she really is to the mainstream in today's society.

According to a Reuters article which really was no more than a profile on some Portland tattoo artist, tattoos are hitting the mainstream, with more than 38 percent of Americans between the age of 18 and 25 having at least one tattoo, while the number increases to 40 percent for those 26 to 40 with at least one.

Yes, people are getting tattoos, but how many of that 38 to 40 percent has something as extreme as Kitten's face tattoo? My guess would be that a good majority of them have something like their arms, shoulder, lower back or ankles done. Maybe .0001 percent of the tattooed population have their faces done.

Now, in other news, real important news that affects all of our lives in one way or another, former Danity Kane member Aubrey O'Day got the French phrase Je ne sais quoi on the inside of her left middle finger, something that's apparently already been done by Lindsay Lohan, Rihanna and a few others, while rapper-turned-actor 50 Cent has been getting a good amount of his ink removed to increase his chances of landing roles in Hollywood.

So, with 50 Cent removing his tattoos to keep the big-wig movie execs happy and with Aubrey O'Day getting blasted on over at TMZ.com, PerezHilton.com, DListed, and all of the other paparazzi, you have to question if we really have moved forward in giving some mainstream acceptance to the almighty tattoo or is the world still just not ready?
